조상의 얼을 오늘에 되살리기 위해 (5) "To bring the ancestral spirit back"

완전히 나쁜 사람은 없고
완전히 좋은 사람도 없습니다.

한국인이라고 해서
모두 좋은 사람만 있는 것도 아니고,
모두 나쁜 사람만 있는 것도 아닙니다.

일본인도 마찬가지입니다.
다 좋은 사람도 아니고
다 나쁜 사람도 아닙니다.

세상에는
훌륭한 일본인들도
정말 많이 있습니다.

지금까지
한국 사람들보다 더 깊은 마음으로
안중근 의사의 평화 사상을 기리고,
그의 죽음을 애도하며,
제사까지 드려온 일본인들이 있습니다.

그들은
안중근 의사의 평화 정신을 따르는 사람들입니다.
국경을 넘어
한 인간의 고결함을 존중하는 사람들입니다.

There is no one who is completely bad,
and no one who is completely good.

Not all Koreans are good,
and not all Koreans are bad.

The same is true for the Japanese.
They are not all good,
and they are not all bad.

There are many
truly admirable Japanese people.

In fact,
there are Japanese individuals
who have honored Ahn Jung-geun’s vision of peace
more deeply than many Koreans.

They have mourned his death,
held memorial services for him,
and kept his spirit alive for generations.

These are people
who follow Ahn Jung-geun’s philosophy of peace—
people who respect the nobility of a human being
beyond borders and history.

 

안중근 의사가 뤼순 감옥에 있을 때,
그를 지키던 일본인 간수 지바 도시치는
안 의사의 품격과 태도에 깊이 감동했습니다.

그 감동은
잠깐 스쳐 지나가는 감정이 아니라
평생을 바꿔놓을 만큼 깊은 것이었습니다.

고향으로 돌아간 지바는
안 의사가 직접 써준 ‘위국헌신군인본분’ 유묵을
가보처럼 모시고 살았습니다.

그리고
매일 아침과 저녁마다
안 의사의 명복을 빌었다고 합니다.

지바가 세상을 떠난 뒤에도
그의 부인과 양녀, 그리고 후손들이
그 마음을 이어받았습니다.

그렇게
100년이 넘도록
조용한 추모가 이어졌습니다.

1980년에는
안중근 의사 탄생 100주년을 맞아
그동안 소중히 간직해 온 유묵을
한국에 기증하기도 했습니다.

지바의 고향인 미야기현 구리하라시에는
대림사라는 작은 사찰이 있습니다.

이곳은
지금도 일본에서
안중근 의사를 기리는 중심지로 알려져 있습니다.

사찰 안에는
안중근 의사와 지바 도시치의 위패가
나란히 모셔져 있습니다.

두 사람의 인연이
세월을 넘어 이어지고 있는 모습입니다.

1983년부터는
매년 9월 2일과 3월 26일에
추모 법회가 열리고 있습니다.

지바의 후손들,
마을 사람들,
일본 지식인들이
조용히 모여 안 의사를 기립니다.

사찰 경내에는
안 의사의 평화를 향한 뜻을 기리는
현창비도 세워져 있습니다.

작은 공간이지만
그 안에 담긴 마음은
깊고 오래 이어져 내려옵니다.

일본에는
또 다른 방식으로
안중근을 기억하는 사람들도 있습니다.

‘안중근을 사랑하는 일본인들의 모임’ 같은 단체들은
그를 단순히 이토 히로부미를 저격한 인물이 아니라
동양 평화를 꿈꾼 사상가로 바라봅니다.

그들은 연구하고,
알리고,
배우며
안 의사의 정신을 일본 사회에 전하려고 노력합니다.

이런 이야기를 들여다보면
역사가 사람을 갈라놓기도 하지만,
한 인간의 고결함은
국경을 넘어
사람과 사람을 잇는 다리가 되기도 한다는 사실을
다시 느끼게 됩니다.

When Ahn Jung-geun was imprisoned in Lüshun,
the Japanese guard assigned to watch him, Chiba Toshichi,
was deeply moved by Ahn’s dignity and calm strength.

It was not a passing impression.
It was something that stayed with him
for the rest of his life.

After returning to his hometown,
Chiba kept Ahn’s handwritten calligraphy,
“Devotion to the Nation Is the Duty of a Soldier,”
as a treasured family heirloom.

Every morning and evening,
he prayed quietly for Ahn’s soul.

After Chiba passed away,
his wife, adopted daughter,
and later descendants
continued this gentle act of remembrance.

For more than a hundred years,
their devotion did not fade.

In 1980,
on the 100th anniversary of Ahn’s birth,
the family donated the treasured calligraphy
back to Korea.

In Chiba’s hometown of Kurihara, Miyagi Prefecture,
there is a small temple called Dairinji.

This temple has become
a central place in Japan
for remembering Ahn Jung-geun.

Inside the temple,
the memorial tablets of Ahn and Chiba
are placed side by side.

It is a quiet symbol
of a human connection
that survived long beyond their time.

Since 1983,
memorial services have been held every year
on September 2 and March 26.

Chiba’s descendants,
local residents,
and Japanese intellectuals
gather to honor Ahn
in a calm and respectful atmosphere.

A memorial stone
dedicated to Ahn’s wish for peace
also stands within the temple grounds.

It is a small place,
but the meaning carried there
is deep and enduring.

There are also Japanese individuals
who remember Ahn in other ways.

Groups such as
“The Society of Japanese Who Love Ahn Jung-geun”
study his ideas
and share them with others.

They see him
not only as the man who assassinated Ito Hirobumi,
but as a thinker
who dreamed of peace in East Asia.

Stories like these remind us
that history can divide nations,
but the sincerity of a single human being
can become a bridge
that connects people beyond those divisions.
