온라인 오프라인 교회의 맥락적 여정 3. 

Grace & Home Church (2026년 부터 어쩔 수 없이 교회 명칭 등록을 FCMC에서 바꿔야만 했다)

 

50살까지 구세군에서 이루고자 했던 목적이 달성되지 못하고 LA지방 장관과 나의 CASE를 닫자고 하여 그러자고 동의하고 기탄없이 짐을 내려놓았다.

2013년쯤이다.

플러스 인생의 삶으로 섭리가운데 무언가가 있으리라 마음먹었다.

 

그리고 6일동안의 삶으로 다시 돌아왔다.

BIC Mission 이란 선교단체가 출범하자 합류했다.

마침 훌러신학교수 피터 와그너 박사가 일터교회란 책을 출판해서 그 책을 교과서로 삼았다.

그리고 비젼과 사명이 무언지 학습하였다.

 

비져너리 인증서라는 것도 받았다.

이즈음 우연히 당시 LA에서 알려진 쉐퍼드 신학대학을 방문하게되었다. 아나하임 순복음 베데스다에서 같이 공부했던 친구 목사가 말하기를,신학대학교 신축 건물을 멋지게 지었는데 학교 이사장목사의 교회가 대학 대강당에서 예배를 드리고 자신의 스몰구룹교회와 합류하고 자신이 부목사라 같이 뭐좀 어덯게 해보자는 의도로 초대한 것이었다.

이사장 목사님의 여러 제안도 있고해서 한두달 다니고 있었다.

그러자니 요즘 신학은 어덯게 돌아가는지 알아보려고 몇과목 청강하다가 우연히 신학대학장의 방까지 들어가서 이야기하는 기회가 있었다. 벽을 보니 우리가 빅 미션에서 하고 있던 비젼에대한 큰 세미나 홍보 벽보가 크게 붙어있어서 묻고 대화를 하였다.

학장호칭은 나와 동갑으로 샬롬 박사이었다.

내가 비젼스쿨이라는 책을 읽고 있고 비젼라이프 코칭책도 읽고 있다하니 좀 보자고하여 보여주었더니

그것을 빌려달라고 하여 빌려주었다.

그이후로 한참후에 책을 돌려달라하였더니 자신이 책을 하나 써서 출판하려고하니 좀 보면서 오타난 것이 있으면 알려달라고해서 그러자하고 받아 읽으니 코칭의 내용을 배경으로 쓴 크리스챤 비젼라이프 책이었다.

이후로 거의 친구처럼 오가며 식사도 하고 사귐을 가졌다.

역시 학자로 오랜 교수생활로  언어감각등 책도 여러권 출판하고 여러면에서 뛰어난 은사가 있는 학자임이 분명하고 생각한다.

 

https://visionmentoring.org/  비젼멘토링 인터네셔널 설립하고 같이 학습하며 초기에는 이 조직의 이사로 추천되기도 했었다.

 

그러나 나는 멘토링과 코칭의 영역이 많이 다르기에 

코칭 멘토링하면 모를까 그냥 멘토링 방식이면 서로가 역동 흐름에서 충돌할 수 있고 코칭 철학과 방식에 구별이 필요한 전문분야 영역이라 공적으로는 서로의 영역을 구분해서 조직 운영에는 개입하지 않고 사적으로만 교류하자하고 이사멤버에서 빠졌었다.

 

3년이 넘어가는  지금은 VMI를 위해 기도를 많이 해야겠다는 생각이 든다. 모두가 꼭 필요한 사역임이 분명하기 때문이다.

Until the age of fifty,

I could not accomplish what I had hoped for within The Salvation Army.

The divisional commander in LA suggested closing my case,

and I agreed.

I laid everything down without regret.

This was around 2013.

Yet in my heart I believed:

“In God’s providence,

there must be another path prepared for the plus-life ahead.”

So I returned to the six-day life,

a faith rooted in the workplace.

When the mission organization BIC Mission was launched,

I joined.

Around that time, Dr. Peter Wagner of Fuller Seminary

published Church in the Workplace,

and we used it almost like a textbook.

In the photo above,

I am the one in the front row,

third from the right, wearing gray.

There, I learned again

what vision is

and what calling is.

I also received a Visionary Certificate.

Around that time, I happened to visit

Shepherd Theological Seminary in LA.

A pastor friend—someone I had studied with in Anaheim—

showed me the newly built seminary building

and invited me to join his small-group church

where he served as an associate pastor.

I attended for a month or two.

Curious about how theology was developing these days,

I audited a few courses.

By chance, I ended up in the dean’s office

and had a long conversation.

On the wall was a large poster

advertising a vision seminar

that aligned exactly with what we were doing at BIC Mission.

Naturally, our conversation deepened.

The dean, Dr. Shalom,

was the same age as I.

When I mentioned that I was reading

Vision School and Vision Life Coaching,

he asked to see the books.

I lent them to him.

Much later, when I asked for the books back,

he told me he was writing a book

and asked if I could look for typos or awkward expressions.

It turned out to be a Christian vision-life book

written with coaching principles in the background.

From then on, we became almost like friends—

sharing meals, visiting each other,

and building a warm relationship.

He was clearly a gifted scholar

with strong language skills

and many academic strengths.

He later founded Vision Mentoring International (VMI),

and I was even recommended as an early board member.

But because mentoring and coaching

are distinct professional fields,

I chose not to participate in organizational leadership

and kept our relationship personal rather than official.

Now, more than three years later,

I feel a deep desire to pray for VMI.

It is clearly a ministry that is needed.

 At age 65

I now enter a season

of organizing my life

and completing my personal journey.

As a Somatic,

Family Life Cycle,

Senior Coaching Ministry Pastor-Coach,

I want to leave something meaningful behind.

Just as Rev. Choi Soon-jik

kept a recorder by his bedside

and spoke until his final breath

to leave a message for the next generation,

I too want to make that effort.

For the body of the DNA family community,

the body of the church community,

and the body of the coaching culture community—

for my body and the bodies of my neighbors.
